Have you heard? West Dallas is the hot spot to host events!
At least, that’s the vantage point from our West Dallas events calendar, which included 10 events over the past 10 days and shows 13 more events spanning between tonight and the end of the month.
Dallas Free Press team members prioritize spending time in West Dallas, and listening at community gatherings and civic meetings. Here’s a quick recap of a few we attended, in case you couldn’t make it.
- 🏠🏡 La Bajada neighbors could not find an attorney willing to help them appeal the Board of Adjustment’s decision to allow a new home to built higher than city guidelines allow, but discussed other legal courses of action at their neighborhood association meeting. Read Report for America corps member Michaela Rush’s report.
- 🚞 A proposed high-speed rail route from Dallas to Fort Worth would cut through our neighborhood and displace 15 to 20 homes and businesses. Find Report for America corps member Michaela Rush’s report on our website later today, and submit your thoughts in this survey.
- 📍The SMU Budd Center has created an updated community resource guide for West Dallas and is working with Dallas Free Press to add resources our online map so communication and community coordinator Jeffrey Ruiz can share them via text. Add your organization to the directory, view our West Dallas resource map and sign up for Dallas Free Press texts.
- 🔃 Builders of Hope introduced neighbors to Phase II of the West Dallas Community Vision Plan, which was designed to incorporate residents’ voices into the larger Forward Dallas plan and “slow down fast-paced gentrification.”
