Good afternoon! Here’s what the Dallas Free Press team is working on and where we’ll be this week.

Coming soon from Dallas Free Press

Brenda Hernandez is set to publish an article on the need for a database of community-led and nonprofit food pantries for residents to have up-to-date information on dates and locations — a problem the Food Access Fair on Sept. 21 hopes to address.

Brenda also will publish all of the information gathered from DART representatives and bus passengers for the new DART Next Generation bus shelter.

Sujata Dand is working on a story about Dallas ISD’s security procedures. Be on the lookout for her follow-up this week on what’s happened at the site of the Malcolm X Plaza.

What else do we need to follow-up on? Let us know.

Dallas Documenters at public meetings

Our Dallas Documenters will cover several public meetings this week:

Annie Phillips will document a meeting reviewing the West Dallas Anti-Displacement Toolkit on Tuesday. The toolkit is a Builders of Hope project to inform housing policy for the City.

Other Documenters will be assigned to the City Council Park and Recreation Board meeting and Citizen Homelessness Commission meeting on Thursday.

David Silva Ramirez and Shawana Carter will be at the South Dallas Serves block party on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon to help Forest Forward with voter registration. Coming up next Wednesday, David will host a webinar on how to maneuver the City of Dallas website. Register here.

Scan our Documenters’ notes from recent public meetings, including a recent Dallas ISD Board meeting and the City Council-appointed Environmental Commission.

Dallas Free Press in our neighborhoods

Jeffrey Ruiz will attend The School and Parent Zone to connect with West Dallas serving organizations to learn about upcoming events and resources. Jeffrey will connect neighbors at The Parent Zone to our West Dallas Neighborhood News texting service.

Brenda and Sujata will join journalism professor Annette Nevins and her feature writing class this Saturday, Sept. 21, on a Hidden History DFW bus tour of South Dallas historic sites.
